When ‘Twin Peaks’ was first aired on television, it was a very exciting time indeed. There weren’t exactly a lot of great programmes to choose from back then, so this show really was a sight for sore eyes. It was fresh, cool and very, very strange. Everyone I knew would tune-in to watch it each week and it was constantly discussed between episodes. ‘Who killed Laura Palmer?’, ‘What made Leland’s hair turn white overnight?’ and ‘What does the Log Lady have to do with it all???’ These were the sort of questions you were likely to hear in any pub or café back in 1990.

And because so many of these things were never properly answered at all, ‘Twin Peaks'has retained every bit of its magical appeal. That is why this show is now one of the daddies of cult TV. ‘Twin Peaks'has never left the minds of those who watched it the first time round and many people still have regular nightmares about the super-scary Killer Bob!<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

It’s just a shame that this landmark series could not have gone on a little longer. Sure, there may be thirty superb episodes to re-watch (along with the hugely underrated, ‘Fire Walk With Me’), but did it really have to end so soon? There were so many more tantalising things to explore – the ‘Let’s Rock'in large format print on the windscreen, the blue rose and that mysterious tall guy…

Maybe one day David Lynch will decide to take a trip back to the town of Twin Peaks. Mark Frost has hinted a few times that he and Lynch have some ideas for a tie-in project… but there is still nothing definite at the time of writing. One thing is for sure though; if there are to be any new additions to the ‘Twin Peaks'franchise, then they will be very warmly welcomed by its legion of fans!<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Agent Cooper, the backwards-talking midget and the music of Angelo Bedalamenti. A dark crime saga revolving around the mysterious death of Laura Palmer- prom queen from the deceptively quite town of logger, somewhere in the American northwest. A mixture of mystery, horror, soap opera and dark humour. And at the same time sexy and funny, amusing and sophisticated surreal and mundane. Femme fatale from the 50’s, infidelity, drugs, great coffee, an FBI agent, giants and midgets. This TV series is indeed a mixture of many things, and maybe this is why it is, according to me, the best thing that has ever been broadcasted on TV.

Everybody who was watching TV during the 90’s sure knows all about the most famous TV project of David Lynch. But only recently the complete DVD set was released, so now we can enjoy those thrilling episodes once more and just think of the past which brings back memories that make us smile. Twin Peaks celebrates more than two decades after its first appearance and it is fair to say that Twin Peaks is not only an emblematic story but that it gave birth to projects like The X-Files. It is very difficult for me the explain how much I love it. Today there are just too many TV-shows and the viewers just get overwhelmed by stupid storylines, boring screen play and actors who have no idea how to act. They just all look so fake and I am sure that most of them are frequent visitors of one of the many botox London clinics and plastic surgery places where they make all actors to look the same, tacky and fake. Anyway, I just wanted to say that one should really appreciate good TV and not waste one’s time with stupid programs which just make you dumber and dumber.

I must admit that I don’t usually “celebrate” Halloween. Sure, I used to insist that my Mum nearly crippled herself making me a turnip lantern each year and I once put on a bin bag and some black eye-liner to get into a club free when I was a student, but that’s about it. So when I was invited to a colleague’s fancy dress Halloween party at the weekend, I was genuinely quite excited at the prospect of coming up with a unique and scary costume.

Of course, there was only one costume I could possibly choose when I thought about it; Laura Palmer post mortem! I already had a few bits and pieces from a previous fancy dress party when I’d gone dressed as Laura in the prom photo that everyone knows from the show, so it didn’t take much to add some white face make-up, a couple of ominous bruises and various other subtle touches.

The problem is that Twin Peaks was a long time ago and my costume wasn’t as much of a hit as I’d anticipated. I started the evening asking people to guess who I was, but having received some wacky answers and some less than flattering ones, I realised I should probably have pinned a large format print badge to my person to save all the questions later on. Still, once the wine started flowing all the costumes started to fall apart anyway, so it soon became irrelevant who you had intended to be at the beginning of the party! In fact, I even went home with the wrong colour wig, much to my dismay. So, if anyone picked up a curly blonde wig at a Halloween party at the weekend, and lost a ginger one at the same event, can we arrange a swap please? Laura would definitely not suit being a redhead…

There are many iconic images that make you think of the 1990s; Michael Douglas in his designer suit fabrics screaming “Greed is good!” and the beginnings of Britpop are two, but that prom photo of Laura Palmer, the victim in Twin Peaks is probably the most memorable. Not only did it appear throughout the TV show itself, but it was reproduced in pretty much every media article discussing the show and was even parodied on numerous occasions. Actress Sheryl Lee (who also played Laura’s cousin Maddy Ferguson in the show) posed for the infamous photograph – but what happened to the actress who had one of the most recognisable faces of the decade?

Amazingly, the stunning Sheryl didn’t go on to have the stellar career I predicted for her! Aside from a major role in ’Backbeat’, the dramatisation of the early years of The Beatles, her filmography lists bad TV movies and guest appearances in drama shows like “Without a Trace” and “House”. One of her most famous recent roles actually never made it to the screen; Sheryl was originally cast as Mary Alice Young, the Desperate Housewife who kills herself at the start of the the series and narrates all the following episodes. Sheryl played the role in an unaired pilot, but was eventually replaced by Brenda Strong.

In recent years, Sheryl has returned to her indie roots, appearing in the widely acclaimed ’Winter’s Bone’, a thriller which earned rave reviews and even an Oscar nomination for its young star, Jennifer Lawrence. Although Sheryl is now very much the wrong side of 40 when it comes to movie roles, she still has the stunning looks that made her prom photo one of the images of the 1990s.

There have long been rumors and whispers about whether or not Twin Peaks was the inspiration behind Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda, which according to the creators of the Zelda series Eiji Aonuma and Takashi Tezuka may not be as far fetched as it appears.

Of course, the hugely popular game didn’t feature any of the treatises on pies, school murders or the frankly bizarre Twin Peaks cast, but the Game Boy iteration sports a number of so called ‘suspicious'looking types in the cast of characters used, influenced by the increasingly popular and truly wacky mystery serial airing at the time.

Twin Peaks was hugely popular and concerned a small group of people in a small town, with nothing small about the event happening therein. The plan was to make Zelda small enough for anyone to easily becomes engrossed but with zany enough characters and events to really set the mind working.

Aonuma claims to have initially questioned his partner’s sanity, but clearly saw his genius which has become common knowledge for anyone looking deeply enough into the matter. Indeed, in a hugely popular strategy guide for Link’s Awakening, Tekuza is cited as suggesting all of the characters should be afforded a little Twin Peaks-esque mystery and suspicion.

This should really clarify the matter as much as it needs to be for anyone and for those still on the fence, it is clearly so much more fun to assume a Zelda and Twin Peaks connection than otherwise.

Either way, it was certainly never going to inspire a package of time management software. So why not Zelda?

Born 1946, David Keith Lynch is one of the mastermind creators behind the fabulous ‘Twin Peaks’, yet David Lynch has many strings to his talented bow; filmmaker, musician and occasional actor. After studying painting in Philadelphia David moved to Los Angeles and produced his first full length film – Eraserhead in 1977, now a cult classic. Many years later after producing a number of films he teamed up with Mark Frost to create the highly popular murder mystery television series ‘Twin Peaks'which was first piloted in 1990. David Lynch has had some what of a tumultuous personal life, having been married a total of four times with a number of other long term relationships. David was married to his first wife Peggy Lentz for7 years, his second wife Mary Frisk for 10 years and his third wife Mary Sweeney for less than one. David is currently married to Emily Stofle and has previously had a long term relationship with actress Isabella Rossellini, but the pair never married. David Lynch is arguably one of the most intriguing and creative artists of our modern times, best known for creating beautiful films such as Blue Velvet and Wild Heart, and mesmerising to look at whether he is wearing a suit or dressed down in casual fabrics.

David has a special way of creating both television and film content, conjuring ideas from a thought pool that is both surreal and seemingly absurd at times yet completing compelling and fascinating – watch some of his creations and see for yourself!

The advent of teen television series started with the creation of Buffy the Vampire Slayer which brought in the merging of vampires set in the landscape of the modern American high school.Kicking of the vampire fever brought in the onset of various other television series which incorporate the same theme to follow for many years on.
Its interesting to see how the vampire has changed from the traditional to the modern vampire of today. While the newer series incorporate rich kids who live in expensive Florida Villas, Buffy captured a more general and non specific audience. The universality of the show is what brings it the success it has.The vampire of today seems to have become the image of what every 15-18 year old kid wants to aspire to become. The mystery of these creatures of the night still remains the reason what attracts us to become just like them. The success of movies like Twilight, has clearly proved how commercially packaged characters from the movie have been able to relate to such a large audience.Escapism seems to be the main theme for these series, allowing the audience to travel into a space where they can be who he desire to be.Sex,drugs and violence is what makes the world go round. In the world that we live in, audiences find their road to fantasy through series such as these.
The future of television fantasy series is vast and considering the amount of vampire and supernatural series that have been created, its living proof that the market for them is massive and ever growing.

I have so much Twin Peaks merchandise in my house that my friends are always telling me I should get myself one of the self storage units so I don’t look like such a weirdo when people come to visit. I always argue that I have my house just how I like it, and besides Twin Peaks was over 25 years ago so there won’t be any more new stuff coming out for me to add to my collection.

Turns out I might have been a bit hasty there. Internet rumours (don’t you just love them?) reckon that ABC might be planning a re-make or some kind of return to Twin Peaks. No-one seems sure if it’s going to be scene-for-scene remake or if the studio will be able to persuade all the original protagonists to return, including the masterful David Lynch, to make a follow-up.

Now, my attitude towards this rumour very much depends on which scenario is correct. If it’s the latter then I will be as excited a kid at Christmas who has also just been told they’re going to Disneyland on holiday after being allowed to drink a dozen cans of full sugar coke. In fact, if the rumour of a David Lynch return to TP is true, I would go so far as to say that it would be the most exciting thing that has ever happened to me. On the other had, words cannot express the revulsion I would feel if some hack was going to butcher the greatest ever TV show in an attempt to boost ABC’s ratings. I feel some kind of boycott would be required…

Instead of looking at text books related to economics and politics, the best way to learn could be from magazines. I am a regular reader of The Economist and Bloomberg BusinessWeek. These magazines are great to get a better understanding of who economics and politics works in the real world. I recently went to write the Bloomberg aptitude test, I was pretty confident that it would go well cause I was at the same time studying for my exams which was after 2 weeks, the economics I had learned and revised was fresh in my head.
After a while I got into the examination room, turned the screen on and got to it. Soon I realized the gap between reality and our comfy university. Everything that I had learned for economics in the past 5 years was useless. But since I read magazines like The Economist and Bloomberg BusinessWeek – with a little help of my general knowledge – I was able to secure a 43% and rank 45 out of 4000 student who took part. Its not a very big score but keep in mind that there were no past papers to go through, there were no mocks, I went in there with whatever I thought was suitable. Rest of the 50% of what I achieved goes to the magazines.
School and Universities (no disrespect) have not been able to open the students eyes to the real world, at least I hadn’t been – in some form of Cheap Cosmetic Surgery we all thought that what we would learn would be essential for work. Turns out its down right wrong.

An art loosing its power over the people, though we still have magazines that educate in the right spheres of knowledge, they have been heavily out numbered. My university store has a shelf a magazines and its quite a big one. But they are full of music and pornographic magazines. I asked the store manager if he would sell the Times or the Economist instead, he told me that we tried to sell it but people don’t read them anymore, at least not the students.
He’s quite right, every small close buy store I run upto is full of crap, I don’t get it, aren’t people read to learn anymore? There would a leaping difference between educative magazines and crappy magazines at a ratio of 1:20, students are keen on celebrity gossip thus they would like to live like them when the shag week comes on December and they have some crazy parties, but when the CEO of Carphone Warehouse comes to university to make a speech, the place is a ghost town.
Even the weekly or daily magazines that talk about current fairs are now full of celeb gossip and endless adverts that take up 70% of the magazines pages. The plastic lifestyle of celebs like botox berkshire are now reaching the kids, the ones who even want to learn and read over surrounded by kids who only want to party and blow money on alcohol. It’s you make sure that your kid atleast has his head in the level and know the line between fun and stupid.
